About the Artwork

Rosie Hastie delves into the dual nature of threat and illusion within photographic scenes, resonating with familiarity akin to even the most casual Tasmanian gift shop encounters. However, they are far from real. Through meticulous yet transient recreations, Hastie prompts contemplation on the fragility and deceptive permanence of these sites. She challenges us to acknowledge that these places merit safeguarding beyond mere visitation and image documentation before they vanish entirely into the realm of the imagination.

About the Artist

Rosie Hastie completed her Masters in Photography at the University of Tasmania in 2011, where she developed her arts practice using an analogue camera and countless hours in the dark room. Since then Rosie has exhibited nationally and internationally, and has been a finalist in numerous prizes including in Tasmanian Women’s Art Prize and The Alice Prize. In 2022 Rosie was the winner of the Henry Jones Art Prize.
