About the Artwork

Originally built for storage in the 1830s, Lake Crescent, situated in Tasmania's remote Central Highlands, has become a valuable marshland providing habitat for an abundance of aquatic animals and birdlife. It is a shallow lake affected by constantly changing climatic conditions – the life of the marshlands follows suit, constantly adjusting to survive a variety of levels. Patches of light play across the landscape as sunlight descends through rolling clouds above. Light dapples both water and land, moments of luminosity followed by shadow – moments in time rapidly followed by another. Painting the landscape is about chasing those moments.
